Overview

Adults who lack basic literacy skills can count on the Volusia Literacy Council, the only agency in Volusia County to offer tutoring to adults over 16. We also offer our free special one-on-one or small-group tutoring to adults who speak English as a second language and with workplace literacy partnerships. VLC's mission is "to provide educational services to individuals and families through tutoring in reading, writing, math and workplace skills."

We train adult volunteers to tutor in beginning reading, writing, math and daily life skills.

Tutors and students are matched based on geographical location, time availability and personal preferences (e.g. non-smoker preferred, etc.)

Tutor Training

All tutors must complete a 2-hour orientation and registration meeting with a Program Director.  A 4-hour supplemental tutor training is offered throughout the year.  The Program Director assists you  with any questions or concerns you may have while tutoring.
